The challenge

The Society for Science needed a new partner to create 40 finalist bios for their major national science fair, the Regeneron Science Talent Search. Each finalist received four write-ups, including full biographies, research summaries, press-friendly summary phrases, and profile cards — more than 160 deliverables in total. The client’s longtime contractor had retired, leaving the organization without the staff or editorial systems to handle the project. They needed polished, engaging and scientifically sound storytelling under tight deadlines.

Our approach

WelshLee Creative stepped in to manage the editorial process end-to-end.

With just a few meetings with the client, we:

• Assembled and led a team of experienced science writers.

• Developed templates and workflows to ensure consistency across hundreds of files.

• Edited all bios to a grade 9 reading level, balancing accuracy with readability.

• Conducted fact checks of student extracurricular information and research claims to ensure precision.

• Prepared and delivered polished Google Docs in the client’s required format before the deadline.

We also produced a replacement set of bios quickly when one finalist was disqualified, showing flexibility and reliability under changing circumstances.

The results

The client received a complete, publication-ready set of bios and supporting materials ahead of schedule. Our team received only two minor revision requests; the project required little internal oversight and freed staff to focus on running the event. The polished, consistent profiles helped highlight the finalists’ achievements in a clear, accessible way.
