The challenge
The American Society of Nephrology needed 31 awardee and keynote speaker bios for a special issue of its member journal Kidney News tied to the annual meeting. The bios ranged from 300 to 500 words and required a narrative, celebratory tone. The internal editorial staff, while skilled at managing scientific manuscripts, lacked the time and experience to produce narrative content at this scale.
Our approach
WelshLee Creative took on the project management and editorial leadership from start to finish.
We:
Developed a custom style guide based on prior years’ content to ensure consistency
Managed a team of two writers and one editorial assistant to produce 10 shorter (300-word) and 21 longer (500-word) bios
Provided developmental editing to ensure tone, clarity, and alignment with the client’s voice
Copyedited and prepared all bios in journal-ready format
Delivered final files in Word with suggested headlines to streamline publication
Coordinated internal reviews and revisions to minimize the client’s workload
The project lead also wrote one of the bios, oversaw all editorial workflows, and served as the main point of contact for the client.
The results
We delivered 31 polished, publication-ready bios on time and with minimal revision requests. The bios were featured in a special issue of Kidney News and incorporated into annual meeting materials, celebrating honorees with clear, professional storytelling.

Takeaway
WelshLee Creative provided end-to-end project management and editorial support for a major annual meeting deliverable, freeing the client’s internal team to focus on their core responsibilities while still delivering high-quality, narrative content.
“I highly recommend WelshLee Creative for writing and research projects. I worked with Jennifer on an annual project that involved reviewing individual CVs, researching professional backgrounds, fact-checking, and writing bios in alignment with our house style. It was important for me to find a writer well-versed in the scientific, medical, and academic arenas to ensure accurate bios that focused on relevant professional history and impactful contributions to the field; WelshLee Creative did just that. The quality of work was excellent, deadlines were consistently met, and Jennifer was communicative, professional, and a pleasure to work with throughout the project.”
